Funerals in the UK tend to go through funeral directors, although it is certainly possible to do it yourself.
The Funeral Directors will often have a pool of celebrants that they choose from, trying to find families a good match. If you find a celebrant you would like that is not on the funeral directors list, you can absolutely choose them - funeral directors shouldn't pressure you into selecting one they want.
